Project Management
My experience is divided with one foot in software and one in construction. InnerSpace, my current employer, is a specialty subcontractor that focuses on pre-engineered, modular equipment. But I have a strong background in technology and was employed as an engineer at Netcentives, an Internet startup for three years. I have an affinity for application development but a love for the built environment. Having this diverse background enables me to connect with different people and understand their concerns quickly.
By listening I find a way to work with people the way they work best. This builds allegiance and facilitates collaboration because everyone knows that I care about their concerns. With skills in systems analysis, process development, rapid application development and scenario testing, I find solutions that produce win-win results. This is because I effectively gather information and analyze situations, but also more importantly because I work with the culture and perspective of everyone involved.
Presently I am employed at InnerSpace where I have had an opportunity to really develop my project manager skills. I manage between 40 and 70 projects at a time worth between $5,000 and $900,000. I negotiate contracts and work with a wide range of personalities from senior project managers to founders of contracting firms, architects, vendors, fabricators, and labor crews. At Netcentives I worked with a bunch of engineers. At InnerSpace the cultures are wildly divergent.
Having just completed my MBA I am looking to expand my reach. InnerSpace is a small family run company. I like the breadth of responsibilities there, but I want to work in a larger organization where I can have a greater impact solving larger problems.
I realize that while I have a strong technical background, my greatest talent is in working with people. I am looking for a project management position where the network of people I am in contact with represents a wide range of responsibilities. I thrive in a complex environment where my training in stakeholder management and whole systems thinking is utilized to bridge communications and develop insights that lead to greater efficiency and productivity.
